Stephen Chow NFTs eclipse 10K ETH in trading volume as community expands

Hong Kong director Stephen Chow, known for the iconic film Kung Fu Hustle, launched a profile picture nonfungible token (NFT) collection titled “Nobody” earlier this month. At the time of publication, the collection had witnessed over 9,695 Ether (ETH) ($23 million) traded with a daily volume of 2,713 Ether (ETH).

The same day, Chow changed his profile picture on X and Instagram to a Nobody Avatar, writing, “Any good ideas for [Nobody] community events? I'm new here, so I hope you guys can give me some advice!” The director also encouraged his followers to change their profile pictures to those of Nobody. For future plans regarding the Nobody collection, developers wrote:

“We will also be committed to building Nobody IP [intellectual property], combining the past successful experience of Nobody First Creator Mr. Stephen Chow and incorporating new mechanisms to bring Nobody IP into the public eye through good works and break the barriers that prevented Web3 native IP from entering the mainstream Web2 market in the past.”

On Jan. 10, Chow partnered with cryptocurrency exchange OKX for the creation of a Nobody NFT whitelist giveaway. Over 125,000 users participated in the airdrop, with 2,500 Nobody NFTs up for grabs. The total supply of Nobodys is capped at 10,000.

According to developers, Nobody collectible holders are able to “participate in the development of the project, and enjoy many special rights, including but not limited to proposals, co-creation, voting, and Nobody IP [Intellectual Property] creation.”

The collection was first announced on Dec. 6, 2023, when Chow stated that he would partner with Chinese-American rapper Jin Au-Yeung, also known as MC Jin, to create the Nobody NFTs. The collection is released on the Moonbox platform, a Hong Kong-based artificial intelligence (AI) and Web3 startup that aims to launch AI-powered NFTs focusing on the arts and film industry. Chow is the first content creator on the platform. In August 2023, Moonbox closed a $2.5-million funding round at a $50-million valuation led by OKX Ventures.
